Kibbutz “Shoshana” (Rose)

Located in Rishon Le Ziyon, Israel

Mission Statement
We act to create a more just Israeli society, and to minimize social-economical gaps, acts of racism, violence and sexism, and live by values of equality and cooperation. We are an Educator’s Kibbutz, meaning that our main focus and mission is achieving social change through education. Most members study education and work with youth and children in different educational frameworks.

Community Description
We are an “Urban Kibbutz”, i.e. a Socialist intentional community that lives in urban center and have a shared economy, mutual goals and missions, community life and events, etc.
Our Kibbutz numbers 40+ members from ages 25-27, and is located at the central city Rishon Le Ziyon in Israel. We live in the same neighborhood in roughly 10 different apartments that we rent. We have a fully shared economy (all income goes to the same bank account) and we manage our expenses together through conversations and consensus.
We are part of a larger movement called “Kvutzot Habhira” (“The Choosing Groups”), which is a movement of alumni of the socialist youth movement “Hamahanot Haolim”.

Just give us a call/email!
We would love to meet people from different intentional communities all over the globe. We hold a shared meal on Friday evenings, so that’s a good time to visit and meet many people from the Kibbutz, since at mid-week people are working.
We might even have a place to spend the night, but that’s not guaranteed.

Membership Process:
Basically, anyone who wants to join in good faith and is willing to be part of the community and accepts upon him/herself our codes and guidelines Is welcome to join. Since we are a very new community, we never happened upon people who wished to join us yet.

Government
Decision Making: Consensus (everyone agrees)
Identified Leader: No
Leadership Core Group: No
Additional Comments:
Our leadership changes all the time and is anarchically determined by the good will of the members who are willing to undertake leadership roles. It is important to stress that our leadership does not usually make decisions by itself, but rather are responsible for the processes in which decisions are made (what conversations are needed to be made in order to make the decision? Who should be in those conversations? What are our options and how do we make the decision together? etc.)

Additional Comments:
Our economy is completely shared – all of our income from work goes to our shared bank account, and we pay our living expenses from it. Members get a monthly allowance for food and leisure, and most other expenses are paid directly from the shared bank account.
