A couple who grew up in Galilee, Israel, but prefer to be called global citizens recently visited to experience life at Thai home. Both are extreme environmentalists who refuse to fly to reduce pollution. Over the past two years, they have cycled and hitchhiked through 16 countries. Their lifestyle is minimalistic to the extreme. They don’t even use a tent for shelter, sleeping directly on the ground with the sky as their blanket. They eat only raw vegetables, fruits, and nuts, having avoided cooked food for the past five years.
Danielle and Ish were highly interested in our "Second Home" lifestyle model. Before their visit, they had studied the 800 Values. During their one-week stay, they not only participated in farming and repair work but also eagerly requested to join our value class and life meeting.
They pointed out that our community differs from others in that work here seems to be fixed, whereas in other communities, members rotate through different tasks to gain a variety of experiences. We explained that we also allow task changes based on individual and community needs, but members here often focus on one type of work for a long time to achieve excellence in that area.
During life meeting, when addressing the issue of resolving conflicts and maintaining harmony, Danielle suggested that we encourage silent members to express their thoughts and opinions. She also asked sister Roumei to share her experience and teach us why she work so diligently and selflessly for the community, which left a deep impression on me. Indeed, maintaining the community requires the voice and effort of every member.
Thank you Danielle and Ish for your visit. Not only did you teach us dancing, massage, and beauty care, but you also shared with us the wisdom for maintaining the peace and healthy development of community. Wishing you a smooth journey, with good fortune always accompanying you!
