Do the Cops in Linzhou Look Like Robbers to You?

On July 2, 2025, the police in Linzhou, Henan, raided three Lifechanyuan homes in mainland China, along with the residences of other Chanyuan Celestials in various locations. As soon as they entered, they seized all computers and phones, and then took nearly one million yuan in cash (about USD $140,000). Doesn't that look like something bandits or robbers would do?

Some people may wonder: why didn’t Lifechanyuan just keep the money in the bank?

Just look at the Henan rural bank crisis. Hundreds of thousands of depositors put in tens of thousands, hundreds of thousands, even millions of yuan, only to find they couldn’t withdraw a single cent. The total losses reached tens of billions of yuan—equivalent to several billion U.S. dollars—and affected around 400,000 households. That crisis began in April 2022, and more than three years later, the money is still missing. So ask yourself: would you trust a bank in that situation? If you deposit your money, can you be sure you’ll get it back when you need it? When your savings just disappear, where can you turn for justice? When depositors gathered to demand answers, the police broke up the protests, calling it “illegal assembly.” Where’s the justice in that?

And besides, even if the money is in the bank, it can be frozen at any time. That’s exactly what happened in this case—Lifechanyuan’s funds were frozen, and many Chanyuan Celestials also had their personal accounts frozen. They couldn’t withdraw a single cent. So if your money can be frozen without warning, is it really still yours?

No one expected this. We guard against thieves, robbers, and fire—but who would’ve thought we’d need to guard against the police? The money kept safely at home wasn’t stolen by burglars—it was taken by the police themselves. In a world like this, where can you go to seek justice? Where can you go to be heard?
